Akron Leads Early, Fighting Irish Claims Series with Late Surge

South Bend, Ind. – The Akron Zips held a 1-0 advantage until Notre Dame plated runs in the eighth and ninth innings to complete a 2-1 walk-off win and a series sweep at Frank Eck Stadium on Mother's Day.
Akron distributed six hits for the lone run in the sixth inning as sophomore C Andrew Horvath ( Aurora, Ohio) doubled down the left field line and junior IF Breydan Cavey (Medina, Ohio) pushed Horvath across the plate with a base hit to right field. Horvath went 2-of-4 at the plate, while junior IF Max Bowman (Gahanna, Ohio) also scattered two hits to lead the Zips. Bowman registered a 2-of-4 performance. Junior IF DJ Butler (Chicago, Ill.) rounded out the Akron offense with a 1-of-3 showing.
Akron junior starting pitcher Anthony Fett (Orchard Lake, Mich.) had a dominant showing, hurling 7.0 complete innings while allowing one run on six hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Akron will be back in action at Canal Park for a 10:30 a.m. Education Day game against Youngstown State on Tuesday, May 16. The Zips final homestand of the season will be at Skeeles Field as Akron hosts Ohio for the final #MACtion series of the season on Thursday through Saturday, May 18-20.
