AKRON, Ohio – A late run propelled Western Michigan to a 3-2 triumph past The University of Akron softball team in the series opener on Friday at Lee R. Jackson Field.
Redshirt junior Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) directed the Zips' offensive efforts on the day going 2-for-3 while driving in a pair of RBI.
The Broncos assumed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning before Akron responded with a two-run explosion in the bottom half of the frame on the strength of a two-out single from Stevens.
Western Michigan scored the tying run in the third inning before plating what proved to be the game-winning tally in the sixth inning.
Freshman P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio) struck out six batters in a complete-game effort for the Zips.
