Firestone Ties program Record, Zips Fall at YSU

Niles, Ohio – Junior OF Jack Firestone (Zionsville, Ind.) launched his 14th homerun of the season to tie the program's single season homerun record as Akron fell 8-5 to Youngstown State at Eastwood Field on Tuesday night.
Firestone tied the game 5-5 with a three-run bomb to right field in the seventh inning as he finished the game 1-of-3 with a walk, run scored and three RBI. Sophomore IF Ty Stolarski (Medina, Ohio) also homered in the game, sending a solo shot over the right centerfield wall to start the scoring for Akron.
Junior DH Jack Poist (Hoover, ala.) led the Akron offense with a 2-of-4 performance, while junior OF Sam Seeker (Norton, Ohio) and sophomore OF Ian Pennington (Springboro, Ohio) collected base hits to round out the Zips six hits for the game.
Youngstown State plated three runs in the second inning for an early 3-0 advantage. Stolarski's brought the Zips within two runs in the fifth inning, and Akron manufactured a run in the sixth as Poist singled and advanced to third on a Penguin fielding error. He scored on a wild pitch, 3-2.
YSU answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but Firestone knotted the game in the seventh. The Penguins scored three additional runs in the bottom of the seventh and neither team touched the plate again.
