Pitt Snaps Akron's Winning Streak

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Akron softball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped as Pittsburgh captured both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday (April 18) as the Panthers registered 6-5 and 8-2 triumphs over the Zips.
Trailing 2-1 entering the fifth inning in the opener, the Zips rallied to square the contest at two before redshirt junior Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio) delivered a two-out three-run double to give Akron a 5-2 advantage.
The Panthers plated one run in their half of the sixth inning to cut their deficit to two, 5-3, before back-to-back home runs provided the final 6-5 margin.
Redshirt junior Molly McChesney (Verona, Wis.) finished the contest 2-for-4 at the plate, while freshman Abigail Scheller (North Hills, Pa.) belted a solo home run in her hometown in the fourth inning.
Redshirt senior P Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) pitched a complete game for the Zips striking out four without issuing a walk.
In the nightcap, Pitt erupted for four runs in its first at-bat en route to posting an 8-2 victory.
The Zips garnered a solo home run in the affair from DeVoe in the fourth inning and a pinch-hit blast from junior Kalli Macintosh-Houlder (Mississauga, Ontario) in the top of the seventh inning to account for Akron's two runs. Additionally, McChesney went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Redshirt senior Olivia Stefanoni (Hudson, Ohio) worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in the game for the Zips.
