Akron Extends Win Streak Sweeping Series from Bowling Green

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron softball team erupted for 11 runs over its final two at-bats to secure a doubleheader sweep with a come-from-behind 11-1 victory past Bowling Green on Sunday (April 16) at Lee R. Jackson Field.
The Zips extended their winning streak to eight in a row on the strength Akron's league-leading 25th victory of the year.
"We did a good job all weekend of taking advantage of our opportunities offensively," Akron head coach Craig Nicholson commented. "I thought the top of our order was outstanding in the series and we got contributions from a lot of people up and down the lineup. Pitching and defense continue to do an outstanding job and put us in position to have success."
The Falcons took the early lead in the affair pushing across a run in the top of the first inning.
The Zips responded with a four-run frame in the bottom of the third inning sparked by six hits. Freshman Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas) flashed her speed laying down a single right in front of the plate and raced all the way around the bases with the tying run on a three-base throwing error. Freshman Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas), redshirt junior Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio) and freshman Abigail Scheller (North Hills, Pa.) added RBI base hits in the inning.
The Zips batted around in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 10 with seven runs on three hits in the frame.
Redshirt junior Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) plated a pair of runners, while junior Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio) delivered a two-out two RBI single.
Freshman P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio) worked four innings in the circle striking out five before redshirt senior Olivia Otani (Canton, Ohio) tossed a scoreless frame to secure the victory for the Zips.
Lee finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored, while fellow rookie Sivek added a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored.
