Akron's Middle-Distance Runners Shine at Bryan Clay Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. – University of Akron freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) registered a school-record time of 13:39.65 in the men's 5,000 meters to headline the Zips' performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific on Friday, April 14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Masai garnered a school-record time in the men's 5,000 meters en route to placing 13th in elite field. His effort breaks the previous school-record performance of 14:07.57 set by Kyle Cochrun in 2015 and is the fastest time in the event in the Mid-American Conference this season.
• Redshirt sophomore Jean Dieuvil (North Miami Beach, Fla.) recorded a career-best time of 1:51.75 to place 11th in the men's 800 meters.
• Redshirt junior Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) ran a career-best time of 2:10.51 in the women's elite 800 meters.
• Redshirt senior Marc Carrera (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied a career-best time of 1:51.31 in the men's elite 800 meters.
• Redshirt sophomore Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) crossed the line in a career-best time of 2:13.66 in the women's 800 meters.
