Ohio Takes Series Opener from Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron softball team dropped a 7-3 decision to Ohio in the opening game of its three-game Mid-American Conference series on Tuesday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.
The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning sparked by a two-run home run to assume an advantage they didn't relinquish en route to victory.
A two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning and cut Akron's deficit to 3-1and was the first of two RBI hits on the day for freshman Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas).
Ohio extended its margin to 5-1 before the Zips tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Junior Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio) struck an RBI double down the right field line before Sivek followed with an RBI single to left field to account for Akron's final two runs.
The Bobcats capped the scoring in the affair with a pair of tallies in their final at-bat.
Sivek wrapped up the afternoon 2-for-5 at the plate with 2 RBI, while sophomores Autumn Bailey (Ashland, Ohio) and Alexis Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and redshirt junior Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) added two hits apiece.
Freshman P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio) and redshirt senior Olivia Otani (Canton, Ohio) combined to strike out seven batters in the circle for the Zips.
