AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron track and field team posted 12 victories as part of 28 overall top-three performances in the season-opening Haynes Lancaster Open on Friday (Dec. 1) at the Stile Athletics Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) captured the men's long jump with a mark of 23-2 (7.06m) before besting the field in the men's triple jump with a mark of 46-7.25 (14.20m).
• Redshirt junior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) and redshirt senior Robert Artrip (Independence, Ohio) took the top-two marks in the men's pole vault eclipsing 17-0.75 (5.20m) and 16-0.75 (4.90m), respectively.
• Redshirt senior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) won the men's weight throw with a mark of 62-1 (18.93m).
• Redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) took the women's shot put title with a career-best mark of 40-1.25 (12.50m)
• Junior Adaeze Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) and sophomore Jade Celestine (Ajax, Ontario) earned the top-two finishes in the women's 60-meter hurdles crossing the line in 8.86 and 8.93, respectively.
• Sophomore Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) captured the women's 400 meters in a time of 56.67.
• Freshman AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) won the men's 60 meters in a career-best time of 6.87 before triumphing in the men's 200 meters with a career-low time of 21.64.
• Junior Nighyah Carthen (Twinsburg, Ohio) bested the field in the women's weight throw with a career-best mark of 55-8 (16.97m)
• The men's 4x400 relay team sophomores Caden Dawson (Chardon, Ohio) and Tysean Baronette (Middleton, Del.), Jordan and freshman Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) crossed the line first in 3:19.15.
• The women's 4x400 relay squad of Horn, Celestine, Adaeze Nwokike and junior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) won in a time of 3:52.04.
• Junior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) placed second in the women's pole vault with a career-best clearance of 12-5.50 (3.80m)
• Senior Jameel Williamson (Columbus, Ohio) finished second in the men's 400 meters in a career-best time of 48.96.
• Freshman Ayanna Stafford (Columbus, Ohio) finished second in the women's 60 meters in a career-best time of 7.68.
• Styles placed second in the men's 200 meters in career-best time of 21.79.
• Joy Nwokike finished second in the women's 200 meters in a career-best time of 24.79.
• Junior Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) placed second in the men's shot put with a mark of 53-11 (16.43m).
