Johnson Surpasses 1,000 Career Kills on Senior Day

AKRON, OH --The Akron volleyball team could not out-play an opposing Falcons offense Saturday at home losing to Bowling Green in straight sets (22-25, 23-25, 17-25).
The loss dropped Akron's record to 11-15 overall and 6-9 in MAC action. Prior to the match, Akron honored the four seniors, Genevieve Hara, Faith Johnson, Mia Thompson, and Baylee Vought.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Faith Johnson, who registered 12 kills and 12 digs on the day. With her first kill of the second set, Johnson surpassed the 1,000 career kill mark. Genevieve Hara also added nine kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real chipped in with eight digs to go with four blocks from Karleighana Jones.

» Ellen Kinnaird had a match-high three aces in the loss.
» Faith Johnson registered a double-double with team-high 12 kills and team-high 12 digs. It's her 14th double-double of the season and she reached the 1,000 kills milestone.
» Akron attackers were helped by a team-high 33 assists from Eliska Vytiskova.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips lost the first set 25-22 despite a solid performance on the attacking end. Akron registered a .324 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set loss.
SET 2 | A 25-23 set-two loss put Akron behind two sets to none in the match. The Zips fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team led by more than three points along the way.
SET 3 | Akron was not able to win the third set and was swept by Bowling Green. The Zips lost a tough set 25-17. Akron trailed by as many as eight points as Bowling Green grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was knotted up two times before the Falcons took over the lead.

The Zips will have their final road trip of the regular season next weekend as they travel to Miami for a 6:30 p.m. match on Friday and a 5:00 p.m. match on Saturday.
