Volleyball Prepares for Final Road Trip of the Regular Season

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron volleyball team will hit the road for the last time for the 2023 regular season as they travel to Oxford, Ohio to face Miami.

The Zips (11-15, 6-9 MAC) will face the Miami RedHawks (5-22, 1-14 MAC) for another pair of conference matches. Friday's match will begin at 6:30 p.m. while Saturday has a start time of 5 p.m.

ABOUT THE ZIPS
Akron will hit the road looking to get back in the win column after back-to-back losses at home against the Bowling Green Falcons. As the Zips celebrated senior day on Saturday, Faith Johnson surpassed 1,000 kills in her collegiate career in the beginning of the second set as well as recorded her 14th double-double of the season with a team-high 12 kills and team-high 12 digs. On Friday, Ellen Kinnaird led the Akron offense with seven kills and a .600 hitting percentage, helping to move her to fifth best in the MAC. Eliska Vytiskova has helped the offense with 905 assists so far in her first collegiate season and has the fourth highest average per set in the conference. Akron continues to be the only MAC team that is averaging more than two service aces per set, totaling 204 aces this season. Vanessa Del Real, Vytiskova, and Johnson are all in the top ten in the MAC for their average aces per set.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Miami RedHawks have been struggling, having lost their last seven matches, and only winning one match within the conference (a 3-1 victory over Kent State on October 14). Last weekend, they were swept by Buffalo on Friday and Saturday. However, on Saturday both Ellie Hanson and Maggie McCrary earned their 500th career kill for the RedHawks. McCrary also led Miami with three blocks. Gentry Warrick is third in the MAC for her average of .96 blocks per set and eighth for her .309 season hitting percentage.

The Zips will close out the regular season at home on Wednesday November 15 against Buffalo at 6 p.m. for Fan Appreciation Day with free admission for all fans.
