Strong Performances Highlight Akron Quad for Zips' Track and Field

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team opened its 2023 indoor campaign registering eight victories as part of 25 overall top-three performances at the Akron Quad Meet on Friday, Jan. 13 at the Stile Athletics Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sophomore Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) won the men's pole vault eclipsing 17-2.75 (5.25m), the 12th-best mark in the NCAA this season, while sophomore Oscar Prieto (Barcelona, Spain) earned runner-up accolades besting the bar at 16-10.75 (5.15m).
• Senior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) won the women's 60 meters in a time of 7.48 before combining with freshman Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) to finish 1-2 in the women's 200 meters crossing the line in 24.72 and 25.54, respectively.
• Junior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) captured the title in the men's long jump with a mark of 22-1.25 (6.74m), while junior Haruki Sakai (Katori, Japan) placed third with a jump of 21-11.75 (6.70m).
• Akron swept the top-three finishes in the men's triple jump as junior Caleb Mabins (Erie, Pa.), Novakovic and Sakai posted marks of 46-10.50 (14.29m), 46-10.50 (14.29m) and 44-2.25 (13.47m), respectively.
• Horn won the women's 400 meters in a career-best time of 57.19, while sophomore Sage Harmon (Bloomsburg, Pa.) placed third in 62.15.
• The Zips claimed the top-three finishes in the men's 400 meters as sophomore Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio), junior Blake Lucius (Crestline, Ohio) and freshman Benjamin Hudak (Akron, Ohio) crossed the line in times of 48.55, 48.82 and 49.73, respectively
• Sophomore Isabela Schroeter (Strongsville, Ohio) finished second in the women's high jump with a career-high mark of 4-11 (1.50m).
• Novakovic placed second in the men's 60-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 8.55.
• Junior Quentin Woodall (Cleveland, Ohio) finished second in the men's 200 meters in a time of 22.59, after placing third in the men's 60 meters in a career-best time of 7.04.
• Freshman Zayd Elkurd (Akron, Ohio) crossed the line second in the men's 800 meters in a career-best time of 1:55.47.
• Sophomore Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) tallied a mark of 52-6.25 (16.01m) in the men's shot put to place third.
• Junior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished third in the men's weight throw with a mark of 60-9 (18.52m).
• The men's 4x400 relay squad of Harkelroad, Hudak, freshman Caden Dawson (Chardon, Ohio) and Lucius won the event in a time of 3:23.66.
