AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team registered nine victories as part of 33 overall top-three performances in the Zips' annual battle with rival Kent State on Friday Jan. 20 at the Stile Athletics Field House.
The Golden Flashes edged Akron in the men's race, 76-73, while Kent State outdistanced the Zips in the women's field, 93-56.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) recorded the third-fastest time in indoor program history en route to winning the men's 3,000 meters in a career-best time of 8:10.74.
• Senior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) dominated the sprints on the night winning the women's 60 meters in 7.56, before taking the crown in the 200 meters in 24.59.
• Redshirt sophomore Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) captured the men's 400 meters in a time of 47.64.
• Freshman Vanessa Horn ((Ludwigsfelde, Germany) won the women's 400 meters in a career-best time of 55.51.
• Redshirt junior Blake Lucius (Crestline, Ohio) bested the field in the men's 800 meters crossing the line in 1:51.07.
• Senior Nuh Andu (Doha, Qatar) eclipsed 6-9.50 (2.07m) to triumph in the men's high jump.
• Redshirt sophomore Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) claimed the title in the men's pole vault surpassing 17-6.75 (5.35m).
• Redshirt junior Jabari Neal-Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio) triumphed in the men's weight throw with a career-best mark of 63-1 (19.24m)
