Garretson Headlines Zips' Efforts on Opening Night of Penn State National

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – University of Akron track and field redshirt sophomore Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) eclipsed a career-best mark of 17-10.50 (5.45m) to win the men's pole vault to headline the Zips' efforts on the opening night of the Penn State National on Friday, Jan. 27.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) ran the second-fastest time in indoor program history in the men's mile crossing the line in a career-best time of 4:03.31.
• Garretson's performance in the men's pole vault stands as the No. 4 mark in indoor program history and No. 11 effort in the NCAA this season.
• Junior Dimitrije Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) finished second in the men's long jump with a mark of 23-2.75 (7.08m), while redshirt junior Caleb Mabins (Erie, Pa.) placed fourth with a jump of 23-0 (7.01m).
• Sophomore Oscar Prieto (Barcelona, Spain) registered a mark of 16-5.25 (5.01m) to place third in the men's pole vault.
• Senior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) placed sixth in the finals of the women's 60 meters in a time of 7.49.
