Akron Set to Commence Indoor Track and Field Campaign

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams open their 2023 indoor campaigns this Friday as the Zips welcome Duquesne, Tiffin and Western Michigan to the Stile Athletics Field House for a quad meet on Friday, Jan. 13.
The 28-event meet will kick off with the women's pole vault at 4 p.m. The 16-event running competition commences with the men's mile at 5 p.m. before the women's 4x400 relay closes action at 7:25 p.m.
The meet will be scored as a quad meet: 9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (Individual Events, 2 score per team) 9-7-6-5 (Relay Events, 1 score per team).

DIGITAL TICKETING
Mobile tickets are available for $10 at www.GoZips.com/tickets and must be purchased in advance. Mobile ticketing will be utilized for all home Akron track and field meets this season. Akron students with valid ID will be admitted free of charge. All fans should enter through the Akron student recreation center main entrance. Doors will open to the public at 3:00 p.m.
As part of our ongoing effort to enhance our fan experience and improve safety at all of our venues, we are excited to deliver a convenient way for fans to access tickets and parking passes for every Akron home event directly on their smartphone.
GoZips.com/Tickets will be the easiest and most convenient way for fans to access their Zips ticket account. To save time at the venue, fans are encouraged to save tickets and parking to their Apple Wallet or Google Pay apps prior to arrival on game day.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2022 indoor season as the Zips were rated in the Event Squad rankings released on March 1, 2022, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron ranked 12th nationally in the men's triple jump as well as rating among the top 20 in five different events.
The Zips also rated 14th in the women's pole vault, 15th in the men's 400 meters, 20th in the men's long jump and weight throw.
The Akron men and women ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, in the Great Lakes Regional polls.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2021 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron had a pair of student-athletes ranked in the top-30 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2022 indoor campaign, including, Hesham Eldesouky, who was 21st in the nation in the men's triple jump (52-6/16.00m).
Also rated among the top-30 was Jacqueline Pokuaah (26th in the women's triple jump - 43-0.25/13.11m).
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips added 24 top-five performances in program history to the record book during the 2022 indoor campaign, including five school records.
A YEAR AGO: The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2022 indoor campaign capturing 14 victories as part of 25 overall top-three performances at the Akron Quad on Jan. 14, 2022 at the Stile Athletics Field House.
