Akron’s Second-Half Rally Come Up Short Against Eastern Michigan

AKRON, Ohio – A furious second-half rally by the University of Akron women's soccer team came up just short as Eastern Michigan (2-5-3, 1-1-1 MAC) withstood a late charge by the Zips (1-5-2, 0-3-0 MAC) en route to escaping with a 3-2 victory at FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 29.
"Our players continue to implement some of the things we have worked on in training and tonight they found success netting a pair of goals," Akron head coach Jen Simonetti commented. "We are still growing and building a program for long-term success and will strive to continue our development with eight league games remaining, starting on Sunday at Miami."
The Zips garnered a goal from sophomore Ella Hadley (Concord, Ohio) at the 17:51 mark off assists from freshman Emma King (Akron, Ohio) and sophomore Katie Stafford (Gahanna, Ohio) to square the contest at one.
Sophomore Laurie-Anne Renaud (Quebec City, Quebec) added her first goal of the season in the 84th minute (83:15) courtesy of an assist from King to cut the Zips' deficit to 3-2.
Sophomore GK Maxima Carlitz (Stolberg, Germany) pulled in four saves in net for Akron.
The Zips posted a 16-10 edge in shots on the evening, including an 8-7 margin in shots on goal. King led the offensive efforts for Akron registering a pair of assists on the strength of a game-high four shots. Sophomore Caitlin Bruni (Canal Fulton, Ohio) and freshman Ari Mahoney (Medina, Ohio) each added two shots for the Zips.
