AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron cross country squad returns to action on Friday, Sept. 30, as the Zips travel to Notre Dame, Ind., to run at the Joe Piane Cross Country Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
The women's 5K Blue Race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's five-mile Blue Race, women's 5K Gold Race and the men's five-mile Gold Race.
The Zips will be competing in the 19-team women's field in the Gold Race at 1:30 p.m., which includes; Akron, Arkansas Tech, Buffalo, Cal Poly, Cleveland State, Green Bay, IUPUI, Marquette, Milwaukee, Montana State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, South Alabama, Texas Tech, UC-Riverside, Valparaiso, Western Michigan and Youngstown State.

Sophomore Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) directed the efforts of the University of Akron cross country squad at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships hosted by Cedarville University on Sept. 16 in Cedarville, Ohio.
Honaker traversed the 6K course in a team-best time of 18:25.1 to place 18th.
As a team, Akron placed sixth in the overall field, while finishing second in the Division I competition.
Senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.) was next across the line for the Zips posting a time of 18:39.3.
Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts was the trio of sophomore Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio), sophomore Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio), who registered times of 19:15.6, 19:32.5 and 19:46.7, respectively.

Additionally, sophomores Hannah Kerr (Chillicothe, Ohio) and Emerson Rainsburg (Dover, Ohio) added times of 20:03.0 and 20:27.1.
