PR Marks Highlight Zips’ Efforts at Joe Piane XC Invitational
September 30 | Cross Country
FINAL RESULTS
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Sophomore Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) directed the efforts of the University of Akron cross country squad at the Joe Piane Cross Country Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 30.
Honaker traversed the 5K course in a team- and career-best time of 18:11.4, to direct Akron to a 14th-place finish in the overall field.
"Another big step forward for the team today," said Akron head coach Dr. Tim Sykes. "Five of our seven runners ran new lifetime personal bests, while our team finish goal was top half of teams, so we were just off that mark. We'll continue to gain fitness and focus on the training and recovery process. It should be a fun October as we move into championship season. We're proud of their progress, but we still have a lot of work to do."
Senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.) was next across the line for the Zips posting a time of 18:35.6.
Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts was the trio of sophomores Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio), Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio) and Hannah Kerr (Chillicothe, Ohio), who registered times of 18:49.9 (PR), 18:56.7 and 19:16.0 (PR), respectively.
Additionally, redshirt sophomore Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and sophomore Emerson Rainsburg (Dover, Ohio) added times of 19:22.3 (PR) and 20:22.5 (PR).
