Honaker Paces Akron at All-Ohio Cross Country Championships

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Sophomore Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) directed the efforts of the University of Akron cross country squad at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships hosted by Cedarville University on Friday, Sept. 16.

Honaker traversed the 6K course in a team-best time of 18:25.1 to place 18th.

As a team, Akron placed sixth in the overall field, while finishing second in the Division I competition.

"Overall, from a team performance and race tactics standpoint, the women took another big step forward last night," said Akron head coach Dr. Tim Sykes. "We're proud of their second-place overall D1 finish and it's starting to show their trust in the process and working on getting a little better day-by-day is paying off. As their coach, I'm thankful to get to work daily with such an awesome all-around group of young women!"
Senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.) was next across the line for the Zips posting a time of 18:39.3.

Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts was the trio of sophomore Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and junior Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio), who registered times of 19:15.6, 19:32.5 and 19:46.7, respectively.

Additionally, sophomores Hannah Kerr (Chillicothe, Ohio) and Emerson Rainsburg (Dover, Ohio) added times of 20:03.0 and 20:27.1.

Akron travels to Notre Dame, Ind., to compete at the Joe Piane Cross Country Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Sept. 30.
