Akron Draws with Marshall on Sunday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va-Â The Akron women's soccer team (1-0-1) opened its road portion of the season with a physical match against Marshall at the Hoops Family Field, ending in a 2-2 draw.Â

The Zips attacked first as sophomore Morgan Pentz (Broadview Heights, Ohio) found the back of the net just before the end of the first half at the 44th-minute mark on an unassisted goal that put Akron ahead 1-0 heading into the second half.Â

Marshall capitalized with a tally from Morgan White seven minutes into the second half that tied the game at 1-1 before a penalty kick from Luiza Travassos gave the Thundering Herd a 2-1 lead in the 64th- minute.Â

In the 86th minute, freshman Emma King (Akron, Ohio) scored her first collegiate goal for the equalizer on an assist by sophomore Caitlin Bruni (Canal Fulton, Ohio).Â

Akron rifled off 11 total shots for the game with four being on target with three players registering two or more shots. Marshall slightly edged the Zips with a 16-shot total.

Sophomore goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) faced seven shots on goal and came up with five saves.

UP NEXT
The Zips will return to action on Thursday, Aug. 25 as Akron will travel to Oakland for a 7 p.m. start. Akron will then travel to Richmond, Ky. as the Zips face Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m.
