MUNCIE, Ind.- The Akron Zips softball team (18-31, 13-15 MAC) split its doubleheader with Ball State on Saturday afternoon by taking the first game with a 6-0 shutout, followed by dropping the second game, 6-3.

GM 1: Akron 6, Ball State 0
The Zips came out striking after shutting out the Cardinals with a 6-0 victory. Akron got on the board in the first inning by plating two runs. A throwing error by Ball State enabled the Zips' first run to come across, followed by an RBI double from Kalli Macintosh-Houlder (Mississauga, Ont.) to put the Zips ahead, 2-0.

Three runs in the sixth inning were added to Akron's score, followed by an RBI single from Lexi Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) in the seventh inning that put Akron ahead for good, 6-0.

Lexi Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) gets the win after going seven innings and only giving up three hits. Petrof improves to 6-12 overall on the season.

GM 2: Akron 3, Ball State 6
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, before adding a pair of runs in the third and fourth inning that put Ball State ahead, 5-0.

In the fifth inning, Shelby Fortune (Grafton, Ohio) hit an RBI ground out that gave the Zips their first run of the game. Macintosh Houlder hit her second RBI of the day in the sixth inning to close Ball State's lead to 5-2.

A sacrifice fly by the Cardinals added another run in the sixth inning to extend Ball State's lead to 6-2.

An RBI single from Campbell in the seventh inning made it 6-3 in the Cardinal's favor, but the comeback for Akron fell short as the Cardinals secured the 6-3 victory.

Olivia Otani (Canton, Ohio) suffered the loss after giving up one run on three hits.

Akron and Ball State will close out the series on Sunday, May 8 with a noon first pitch.
