AKRON, Ohio- The Akron Zips softball team (10-19, 5-3 MAC) completed the series sweep over Northern Illinois with a 4-3 victory over the Huskies on Sunday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.

Akron got on the board in the first inning and took a 4-0 lead. With two outs, Angela Cironexb (Louisville, Ohio) hit an RBI single to center field that scored the Zips' first run. After a walk out runners on second and third, Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) hit a 3-RBI double to center field that put Akron ahead, 4-0.

NIU plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning off a 2-RBI single to left field that cut Akron's lead to 4-2. In the top of the seventh inning, the Huskies scored another run off a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3 in the Zips' favor. With the tying run on third, NIU grounded out and the Zips claimed the 4-3 victory for the series sweep.

Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) gets the win and stands 4-5 on the season after pitching three innings, giving up no runs and no hits and striking out one batter. Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) recorded her first save of the season.

Akron will travel to Ohio for a midweek series starting on Tuesday, April 5 as the Zips face the Bobcats at 5 p.m. The Zips will close out the series with a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 6 with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
