AKRON, Ohio- The Akron Zips softball team (9-19, 3-2 MAC) had a strong comeback in the opening game for a 4-2 victory, followed by a 6-3 win for a doubleheader sweep over the Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.

GM 1: Akron 4, Northern Illinois 2
Akron took a 1-0 lead early in the first inning on an error.

Northern Illinois plated two runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead over the Zips, before Akron tied the game when Megan Cotton (Sammamish, Wash.) homered to left center in the bottom of the fourh.

Akron took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Katelyn Reynolds (Cincinnati, Ohio) reached on a fielder's choice allowing a run to score on an error, followed by a SAC fly from Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) that tallied the Zips' fourth run.

Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) went 5.1 innings giving up two runs on six hits and three strikeouts, while Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) gets the win after going 1.2 innings and striking out three.

GM 2: Akron 6, Northern Illinois 3
The Huskies took a 2-0 lead after scoring a run in the second and one in the third inning.

Akron answered back in the bottom of the third plating three runs to put the Zips ahead, 3-2. Lexi Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit an RBI single to center field, followed by Atlantis Taufa (Fullerton, Calif.) hitting a 2-RBI double.

The Zips followed with another 3-run inning in the fifth after Autumn Bailey (Ashland, Ohio) got hit by a pitch with bases loaded. Campbell scored the Zips' fifth run on a fielder's choice, followed by Morgan Cadmus (Tecumseh, Mich.) scoring on another Fielder's choice.

NIU added a single run in the seventh inning, but Akron held on for the 6-3 victory.

Elizabeth Frederick (Williamsburg, Pa.) gets the win after pitching seven innings giving up three runs on six hits and striking out three batters.

Akron will close out the series on Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m.
