Akron Baseball Falls to Louisville in Series Opener

Louisville, Ky. – The Akron Zips fell 9-1 to the Louisville Cardinals in the three-game series opener on Friday evening at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Zips plated the first run as senior Tate Wargo ( Benld, Ill.) led-off the game with a single to right field and scored the game's first run on a RBI groundout to the shortstop by senior Bryant Shellenbarger (Mount Vernon, Ohio). The Zips only managed to issue one additional hit when senior Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.) hit a 1-2 offering to right field to lead-off the third inning. Reinhart stole second base , but was unable to plate a run.

The Cardinal tied the game in the bottom of the second inning and added three runs in the third for a 4-1 advantage. Louisville extended the lead with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth and seventh innings. UL starting pitcher Tate Kuehner earned the win, piching six innings allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Akron senior starter Conor Steinbaugh received the loss in four innings pitcher.
