KENT, Ohio- The Akron Zips softball team (7-19, 2-3 MAC) split a doubleheader with rival Kent State on Friday as Akron opened the series with a 4-3 victory before falling to Kent State, 11-3 in five innings. Winner of tomorrow's series finale will receive a point in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge.

GM 1: Akron 4, Kent State 3
Kent State was able to take command of the game after scoring a pair of runs in the third inning.

Akron was able to answer back and plate a run in the fourth inning when sophomore Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio) doubled to left center and drove in Megan Cotton (Sammamish, Wash.) to close the Flashes' lead to 2-1.

The Zips took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning when Angela Cirone (Louisville, Ohio) tripled to right field and sending in two runs. Kent State tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth.

Akron put the game away in the seventh inning when sophomore Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) hit her fourth homer of the season to give the Zips a 4-3 lead.

Alexa DiFeo (Hudson, Ohio) gets the win after 1.2 innings and giving up one hit and striking out three batters. Junior Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) put in 5.1 innings of work giving up three runs on four hits.

GM 2: Akron 3, Kent State 11 (5 innings)
Akron opened the game with two-run inning after Katelyn Reynolds (Cincinnati, Ohio) hit an RBI single to right, followed by Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) drawing a walk with the bases loaded to put the Zips ahead, 2-0.

Kent State tied the game in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer before the Flashes put together a four-run inning in the second to go ahead, 6-2. The Flashes added two runs in the third inning, followed by three more in the fourth to take an 11-3 lead.

DeVoe homered to left center to tally a run in the fifth inning, but Kent State secured the 11-3 victory.
