AKRON, Ohio- The Akron softball team (6-18, 1-2 MAC) earned a sweep over Robert Morris in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Zips opened the day with a 7-2 victory, followed by a 9-4 win.

GM 1 : Akron 7, Robert Morris 2
RMU plated a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead before freshman Lexi Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit an RBI double in the third inning that tied the game at 1-1.

Akron used three hits, three stolen bases, and two walks to put together a 4-run inning in the fourth. Sophomore Atlantis Taufa (Fullerton, Calif.) started things off with an RBI single. With two runners on, junior Morgan Cadmus (Canton, Ohio) hit her first homerun of the season and put the Zips ahead, 5-1.

Sophomore Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) extended the Zips' lead to 7-1 in the sixth inning with a 2-run bomb to left field. RMU scored a lone run in the seventh, but Akron secured the 7-2 victory.

GM 2: Akron 9, Robert Morris 4
Robert Morris opened the game with a 3-run homer that put the Colonials ahead 3-0.

It wasn't until the fifth inning where Akron was able to get on the board and take command of the game and put up eight runs. The inning was highlighted by ophomore Carley Auten (Pickerington, Ohio) who started Akron's offense with a homer to center field. Sophomore Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio) and freshman Angela Cirone (Louisville, Ohio) both drove in an RBI. With bases loaded with the help of back-to-back walks, sophomore Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) hit a grand slam that put the Zips ahead 8-4.

Robert Morris added a run in the bottom of the fifth before Akron made it 9-4 off an RBI single from Bryant to secure the 9-4 victory.
Freshman Emily Farlin (Stanton, Calif.) gets the win after pitching four innings giving up one run on three hits.

Akron will return to action this weekend for a series as the Zips travel to rival Kent State. Series action will begin on Friday, March 25 for a 3 p.m. start, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 26 starting at 1 p.m.
