AKRON, Ohio- The Akron softball team (4-16, 1-0 MAC) battled rainy weather and delays as the Zips took down Central Michigan (9-11, 0-1 MAC), 8-2, for their first conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.

Akron was able to take a 4-0 lead in the second inning before the game was halted for two hours due to rain. The Zips were to get on the board after Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio) drew a walk with the bases loaded. With the bases loaded again, Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) was walked scoring another run that put the Zips ahead, 2-0.

A Chippewa fielding error allowed the Zips to score another run before Molly McChesney (Verona, Wisc.) singled to left field that scored another run putting the Zips ahead, 4-0. When the game resumed, Akron added a pair of runs in the remainder or the second inning when Angela Cirone (Louisville, Ohio) drove in a run and Meagan Cotton (Sammamish, Wash.) singled for an RBI extending the Zips lead to 6-0.

In the fourth inning, Akron plated two more runs thanks to a Kalli Macintosh-Houlder (Mississauga, Ont.) two-RBI single that put the Zips ahead, 8-0.

Central Michigan got on the board in the fifth inning after an RBI single. The Chippewas closed the Akron's lead to 8-2 in the seventh inning off a solo homer, but the Zips would go on to secure the 8-2 victory.

Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) gets the win as she pitched a full seven innings giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out nine batters.

Akron will close out the series with Central Michigan on Sunday, March 20 with a doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m.
