ATHENS, Ga. – The Akron Zips dropped a doubleheader to No. 15 ranked Georgia by scores of 10-0 and 7-2 at Foley Field on Saturday.

Akron was limited to six hits in game one of the doubleheader as Nick Arrivo and Breydan Cavey both had 2-for-2 performances at the plate. Arrivo was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat and followed with a two-out double to right field (3^rd inn.) and single to center field (6^th inn.), while Cavey entered the game in the bottom of the fourth and unleashed a double to right field (5^th inn.) and a single (7^th inn.). Zac Granger and Bryant Shellenbarger also recorded singles.

After three innings of play, the game was tied 0-0 but the Bulldogs plated two runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 4-0 advantage. Georgia added one run in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth for the win.

In game two, Akron scattered four hits as Arrivo went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The Zips plated the first two runs in the first inning for an early lead. Leadoff batter Kaito Hara and Arrivo both walked to open the game as Shellenbarger registered and RBI single to score Hara. Arrivo scored on a dropped third strike by the Georgia cather and Granger advanced to first base.

The Bulldogs retaliated with one run in the bottom of the first inning and tied the game in the fourth inning. Georgia added two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth, collecting 11 hits for the game.

The weekend series continues on Sunday, Feb. 27 at Foley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
