Akron Set to Compete at NCAA Great Lakes Regional

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's cross country team under the direction of first-year head coach Dr. Tim Sykes continues postseason competition on Friday, Nov. 11, at the 2022 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, hosted by Indiana State at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
The women's 6-kilometer race will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's 10K race to follow at 11 a.m.
The field in the women's championship includes squads from Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Butler, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, Fort Wayne, Green Bay, Indiana, Indiana State, IUPUI, Kent State, Marquette, Miami University, Michigan, Michigan State, Milwaukee, Notre Dame, Oakland, Ohio, Ohio State, Purdue, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Wright State, Xavier and Youngstown State.
Akron culminated its regular season campaign at the Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Ohio at the Ohio University Golf Course on Oct. 29, with senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.) directing the Zips' efforts traversing the 6K course in a team- and career-best time of 21:48.8.
Sophomore Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) was next across the line for the Zips posting a career-best time of 22:22.0.
Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts was the trio of sophomores Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio), Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and Hannah Kerr (Chillicothe, Ohio), who registered times of 22:38.1 (PR), 23:02.2 (PR) and 23:26.7 (PR), respectively.
Additionally, sophomore Emerson Rainsburg (Dover, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Julia Frombach (Avon, Ohio) and sophomore Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.) added times of 23:39.3 (PR), 23:49.8 (PR), 23:50.8 (PR) and 23:58.5 (PR).
The Zips' list of runners in the race this Saturday will include Harden, Maddie Heimlich, Makenna Heimlich, Honaker, Kerr, Rainsburg and Sebest.
In 2021 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Evansville, Ind., Beth Arentz culminated the Zips' campaign with a 12th-place team showing.
Arentz crossed the line in the women's 6K championship race in a career-best time of 20:54.3 to place 44th.

Lindsey Scarton was Akron's next finisher registering a time of 21:17.0.
Alyssa Thomas and Hannah Long along with Sophia Leto rounded out the Zips' scoring efforts posting times of 21:22.5, 21:42.3 and 22:25.3, respectively.
Additionally, Mya Kizer and Sebest crossed the line in career-low times of 22:26.3 and 22:42.6, respectively.
