BOXSCORE (PDF)
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The 19th-rated University of Akron men's soccer team was poised to garner a key Mid-American Conference victory in their road showdown with Bowling Green before a late goal by the Falcons resulted in a 1-1 draw on Thursday, Oct. 6.
"I thought our intensity was very good from start to finish," Akron head coach Jared Embick commented. "We had a bad moment for their goal not making a strong play in the box. That cost us, but we had many good moments in final third, we just didn't execute the final pass. We will take a point on the road as a good result. We wanted to win and played well enough to win; we just have to execute better. We now move on quickly and need to get ready for Chicago State on another road trip
Sophomore Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) gave Akron an early 1-0 advantage scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Ashton Kamdem (West Chester, Ohio) at the 10:38 mark. The tally marked the third consecutive contest in which Clapier has netted a goal for the Zips.
Akron maintained the lead until Andrew Shaffer scored the equalizer in the 71st minute (70:09) for Bowling Green.
The Falcons posted a 10-9 edge in shots on the night, with Akron earning a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Sophomore Jason Shokalook (Erie, Pa.) collected a game- and team-high five shots in the match, while junior Josef Paulus (Hinckley, Ohio) added a pair of shots.
Redshirt freshman GK Mitch Budler (Lincoln, Neb.) tallied a pair of save for Akron.
