PR Marks Highlight Akron's Efforts at MAC Cross Country Championships
October 29 | Cross Country
FINAL RESULTS
ATHENS, Ohio - Senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.) directed the efforts of the University of Akron cross country squad at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Ohio University Golf Course.
Â
Harden traversed the 6K course in a team- and career-best time of 21:48.8.
"Overall, Rebekah Harden had a big time personal-best performance as she paced the squad, and we are happy with the weekly consistent personal-best performances of the top seven runner," said Akron head coach Dr. Tim Sykes. "When you run PB performances each time out, you know the process is working and it just needs time. From our nine competitors that raced today, only one, Halle Sebest, had MAC Championship experience from last year, so the youth of the squad is positive moving forward. Obviously, we are not satisfied with the team result, but we know it's only up from here as we recover and prepare for the Great Lakes Regional Championships in less than two weeks."
Sophomore Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) was next across the line for the Zips posting a career-best time of 22:22.0.
Â
Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts was the trio of sophomores Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio), Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and Hannah Kerr (Chillicothe, Ohio), who registered times of 22:38.1 (PR), 23:02.2 (PR) and 23:26.7 (PR), respectively.
Â
Additionally, sophomore Emerson Rainsburg (Dover, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Maddie Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Julia Frombach (Avon, Ohio) and sophomore Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.) added times of 23:39.3 (PR), 23:49.8 (PR), 23:50.8 (PR) and 23:58.5 (PR).
Â
In addition to the squad's performances at the MAC Championship, the Zips competed against Kent State for one point in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge. By virtue of its team finish ahead of Akron, the Golden Flashes claimed the point and lead 3.5-0.5 in the current standings.
