AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron sophomore WR Alex Adams (Osyaka, Miss.) and senior WR Shocky Jacques-Louis (Fort Myers, Fla.) combined for 19 catches and 218 yards, but the Zips were unable to overcome an early deficit dropping a 27-9 Mid-American Conference decision to Miami on Saturday, Oct. 29 at InfoCision Stadium.
Adam finished the afternoon pulling in a game- and career-high 10 catches for Akron, including a nine-yard fourth quarter touchdown, while Jacques-Louis corralled nine catches for 103 yards.
Redshirt junior QB DJ Irons (Lawrenceville, Ga.) garnered nearly 375 yards of total offense for Akron throwing for 316 yards on 31-of-49 passing, while rushing for 58 yards on the ground. He has now thrown for more than 300 yards in back-to-back games and three times overall on the campaign en route to posting a completion percentage of 66.9.
Redshirt junior WR Daniel George (Fort Washington, Md.) added four catches for 68 yards for the Zips.
Defensively, the Zips were led by a team-high 11 tackles from senior LB Bubba Arslanian (Aurora, Ohio), including a pair of solo tackles. Sophomore DB Tyson Durant (Copley, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore DB KJ Martin (Charleston, W.Va.) added seven and five tackles, respectively. Redshirt freshman DB Darrian Lewis (Akron, Ohio) and redshirt senior DL Curtis Harper (McKeesport, Pa.) each recorded a sack for the Zips, while Akron netted five tackles for a loss.
Redshirt junior K Cory Smigel (North Royalton, Ohio) connected on a 25-yard field goal for the Zips.
UP NEXT
Akron will host Eastern Michigan on Senior Night on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at InfoCision Stadium. Game time has not been set by network television, but the Zips will kick off at either 7/7:30/8 p.m.
