SERIES HISTORY
Akron is meeting Miami for the 32nd time in program history with the RedHawks owning a 21-9-1 series advantage. In the last meeting between the two schools, Miami registered a 34-21 triumph past Akron on Oct. 16, 2021 in Oxford, Ohio. The Zips and RedHawks last met in Akron on Nov. 28, 2020 as Miami posted a 38-7 victory.
The series between the two schools dates back to the 1916 campaign when Miami earned a 23-6 road victory over Akron. The Zips and RedHawks have met every season since 2010.
SCOUTING MIAMI
Miami enters action this week against Akron at 3-5 on the campaign, including 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference, following a 16-10 setback versus Western Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Junior QB Brett Gabbert returned from injury a week ago against Western Michigan and directs the RedHawks' attack passing for 388 yards, including rushing for one touchdown. The duo of sophomore RB Keyon Mozee and Smith have rushed for 376 and 314 yards, respectively, while running for four combined touchdowns. Redshirt senior WR Mac Hippenhammer has pulled down 29 passes for 360 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively, the trio of senior LB Ryan McWood, redshirt junior DB Michael Dowell and redshirt sophomore DB Matthew Salopek have combined to record 71, 65 and 65 tackles, including posting 32, 37, 34 solo stops, respectively. Miami has tallied 19 sacks and 37 tackles for a loss.
As a team, the RedHawks average 18.5 points per game, while their opponents net 23.0 points per outing. Miami has thrown for 145.0 yards and rushed for 158.4 yards per tilt.
As a team, the RedHawks rank sixth in the NCAA in blocked kicks (3), eighth in blocked punts (2), 17th in fumble recoveries (7), 20th in rushing defense (111.2), 29th in punt return defense (4.21) and turnovers gained (13), 31st in total defense (342.0), 34th in turnover margin (0.50), 40th in team passing efficiency defense (123.40), 46th in sacks (2.38), 47th in time of possession (30:52) and 48th in scoring defense (23.0).

IN OUR LAST MEETING (OCT. 16, 2021 - OXFORD, OHIO)
Akron outscored the Miami RedHawks 14-13 in the second half, but could not overcome a 21-7 first-half deficit as the Miami triumphed 34-21 at Yager Stadium on Oct. 16, 2021 in Oxford, Ohio.
QB Zach Gibson threw for a career-high 291 yards and three touchdowns which included a 50-yard touchdown pass late in the game to WR Andre Williams.
Defensively, redshirt junior LB Jeslord Boateng (Dublin, Ohio) led the Zips with nine tackles while sophomore LB Andrew Behm (Appleton, Wis.) recorded a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery.
