Bowling Green Edges Akron on Homecoming

AKRON, Ohio – A second-half rally came up just short for the University of Akron football as Bowling Green (2-3, 1-0 MAC) withstood a late Zips' charge to escape InfoCision Stadium with a 31-28 triumph on Saturday, Oct. 1 in the Mid-American Conference openers for both schools.
Akron (1-4, 0-1 MAC) finished the Homecoming contest posting 408 total yards, including a season-high 184 yards rushing and 224 yards passing.
Redshirt junior QB DJ Irons (Lawrenceville, Ga.) registered 329 yards of total offense, rushing for a season- and game-high 105 yards on the ground, while completing 20-of-33 passing attempts for 224 yards and three touchdowns.
Sophomore WR Alex Adams (Osyka, Miss.) pulled in four catches for a game-high 96 yards and two touchdowns for Akron, while senior WR Shocky Jacques-Louis (Fort Myers, Fla.) added five catches for 60 yards. Sophomore RB Clyde Price III (Kansas City, Mo.) rushed for a pair of touchdowns on the strength of 17 carries for 71 yards.
Defensively, the Zips were paced by senior LB Bubba Arslanian (Aurora, Ohio) with 12 total tackles and five solo stops, including 1.5 tackles for a total loss of three yards. Junior DB Nate Thompson (Sanford, N.C.) registered 10 tackles with four solo takedowns, while junior DB KJ Martin (Charleston, W.Va.) recorded the Zips' lone turnover with an interception that led to an Akron touchdown.
Akron travels to Athens, Ohio for a league showdown on Saturday, Oct. 8 against Ohio University. The MAC contest is slated for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Peden Stadium.
