Akron Drops In-State Showdown at Ohio; Irons Hits for School-Record 43 Completions

ATHENS, Ohio – University of Akron redshirt junior QB DJ Irons (Lawrenceville, Ga.) threw for a career-high 418 yards as part of a school-record 43 completions, but Ohio posted a 55-34 Mid-American Conference football triumph over the Zips on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Peden Stadium.
Irons finished the contest completing 43-of-54 attempts for 418 yards, while rushing for 23 yards and one touchdown.
Sophomore RB Clyde Price III (Kansas City, Mo.) rushed for three touchdowns for Akron as part of 39 yards on 14 carries.
The Zips garnered a pair of 100-yard receiving performances on the afternoon as senior WR Shocky Jacques-Louis (Fort Myers, Fla.) and redshirt junior WR Daniel George (Fort Washington, Md.) hauled in 11 catches apiece for career-best outings of 152 and 108 yards, respectively. Adding 69 and 56 yards through the air with six- and seven-catch efforts was sophomore TE Tristian Brank (Asheville, N.C.) and sophomore WR Alex Adams (Osyka, Miss.).
Defensively, the Zips were paced by senior LB Bubba Arslanian (Aurora, Ohio) with nine total tackles and seven assists, including 0.5 tackles for a total loss. Junior DB Nate Thompson (Sanford, N.C.) registered seven tackles with four solo takedowns, while sophomore CB Tyson Durant (Copley, Ohio) recorded six tackles.
Freshman K Noah Perez (Phoenix, Ariz.) connected on a pair of field goals for Akron, including a career-long 42-yard effort.
