MORGANTOWN, W.VA. - The 14th-rated University of Akron men's soccer team garnered a result in its Mid-American Conference opener as the Zips (5-2-2) battled No. 3 West Virginia (6-0-3) to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Thursday, Sept. 30.

In a tilt dominated by defense, the Mountaineers finished the evening posting an 11-7 margin in shots, including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Will Meyer (Solon, Ohio) was stellar in net for Akron registering a game-high five saves, including a pair in the double-overtime period, en route to earning his third shutout of the season and his second straight.

Freshman Dyson Clapier (Layton, Utah) led the Zips with a game-high two shots.
Akron posted its fifth consecutive shutout at West Virginia in the regular season earning the result this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Shot by Luke McCormick at 9:25 mark from 10 yards out deflects off a diving save by Will Meyer pinged off the crossbar and is cleared out by the Zips' defense
• West Virginia had a goal waved off in the 15th minute (14:09) on an offsides call
• A Mountaineer shot by Frederik Jorgensen at the 22:31 mark went just wide of the corner of the net from 12 yards out
• Akron was outshot in the initial stanza by a 4-1 margin, with West Virginia netting only one shot on goal in the first half
• A shot from junior Renato Kauzlaric (Zagreb, Croatia) from sophomore Ryan Kingsford (Herne Bay, England) in 49th minute (48:33) went just wide of frame
• A shot from 15 yards out at the 52:10 mark by Ike Swiger went just over the top of the net for West Virginia
• A header in the box by Kingsford in 61st minute (60:54) came up just shy of finding the top of the net for Akron
• Clapier registered the Zips' first shot on goal at the 62:28 mark, a strike that was saved by Steven Tekesky
• Meyer made save off a header from Elijah Borneo in the 87th minute (86:34) as well as another stop at the 87:41 mark Aaron Denk Gracia
• Akron was outshot 5-4 in the second half, including 2-1 on goal
• Sergio Ors Navarro struck the post with a shot in the second overtime at the 103:37 mark after a save by Meyer
• Meyer secured the shutout with another save in the 110th minute (109:11) off the foot of Swiger
