MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.- A trio of second-half goals propelled Central Michigan to a 3-1 victory over the Akron women's soccer team (2-11, 0-5 MAC) on Thursday night at the CMU Soccer Complex.

The Chippewas edged the Zips in shots, 15-8, as well as shots on goal 7-4. Freshman Morgan Pentz (Broadview Heights, Ohio) led Akron's attack efforts with three shots, two of which were on target. Senior Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio) added two shots, while scoring the Zips' lone goal.

Freshman Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) registered four saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Chippewas struck first coming out of the break when Laila Arab found the back of the net at the 65:59 mark.
CMU extended its lead, 2-0 at the 67^th-minute (67:33) on a goal from Samantha Kaye-Toral.
Sydney Worthy got the Zips on the board scoring her first goal of the season at t71:04, cutting CMU's lead to 2-1.
The Chippewas secured the 3-1 victory when Elizabeth Chlystun scored in the 75^th-minute (75:48).

UP NEXT
The Zips return home on Sunday, Oct. 10 as they host Eastern Michigan at FirstEnergy Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday's game has been selected as the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game. During warmups, the Zips will be wearing pink shirts to help increase awareness of the disease as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
