Akron Visits Toledo Before Hosting Bowling Green Sunday

AKRON, Ohio-Â The University of Akron women's soccer team (3-12-1, 1-6-1 MAC) will continue conference play this week traveling to Toledo (9-4-3, 4-3-1 MAC) Thursday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at Paul Hotmer Field, followed by hosting Bowling Green (7-5-3, 6-1-1MAC) for its final home game of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium. Sunday's game against Bowling Green will serve as the Zips' Senior Day.

On Sunday, Akron will be recognizing Aislinn Meaney, Carly Pcholinsky, Kayleigh Penton, Sydney Ward, and Sydney Worthy.

SCOUTING AKRON:
Akron returns eight starters in 2021, including four of its top-five goal scorers led by junior Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio), who posted team-high marks in goals (3), points (8), shots (13) and game-winners (2). Tallying one goal each for the Zips was redshirt junior Aislinn Meaney (Ennis, Ireland), junior Carly Pcholinsky (South Park, Pa.) and freshman Annabel Thomas (Canonsburg, Pa.). Sophomore GK Vanessa Berlin (Gau-Oderheim, Germany) returns for Akron after starting six games this past spring and recording 35 saves.

Stafford paces the Zips this season in goals (4), and points (9) while Meaney leads the squad in shots (26) and shots on goal (12).  Freshman goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) has recorded 75 saves on the campaign.

Akron is led by seventh-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, who maintains a 34-73-15 ledger at the helm of the Zips' program, and a 284-186-45 mark in 27 campaigns overall as a head coach.

Toledo enters play this Thursday, standing at 9-4-3 overall and 4-3-1 in MAC play after coming away with a 1-1 2ot tie with Eastern Michigan.

The Rockets are led by Ellie Pool who paces the squad in goals (6), points (14), and shots (41), followed by Olivia Dault with five goals and 31 shots. Goalkeeper Emma Boutorwick has and has recorded 59 saves.
