Action begins on Friday, March 6, with a 2 p.m. contest. Action continues on Saturday, March 7, with a doubleheader at 10 a.m. The final game is slated for Sunday, March 8, Noon. All games will be played at the Kennedy Center.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Chris Sabo, Akron stands 0-8 overall after dropping a three-game series at Lamar. Returning to action after a four-year hiatus, the Akron roster features two seniors, 22 juniors, one sophomore, and eight freshmen.
Expected to start on the mound for the Zips this weekend are redshirt junior RHP Jackson Hickert (Hudson, Ohio), junior RHP Quinton Kujawa (Mt. Vernon, Ill.), and redshirt junior RHP Taed Heydinger (Bayfield, Colo.). Game 4 starter is TBA.
After eight games, junior 2B Bradley Goulet (Cottage Grove, Minn.) is the Zips' top hitter at .222. He has four runs, six hits, a double, a triple, and an RBI. Junior CF Brenton Phillips (Albany, Ga.) follows at .214. He has two runs, six hits, a double, and two RBI. Junior 1B Cameron Tilly (Canberra, Australia) bats .160. He has two hits, four runs, and two RBI. On the mound, junior RHP Jackson Hickert (Hudson, Ohio) sports a 3.00 ERA in 9.0 innings of work. He has seven strikeouts and five walks. Junior RHP Quinton Kujawa sports a 4.67 ERA in 17.1 innings. He's fanned 15 batters and walked five in three games.
The Thundering Herd, under the guidance of 14th-year head coach Jeff Waggoner, stand 1-8-1 overall after dropping three home games to Canisius last weekend. Marshall travels to Virginia Tech for a single game on March 4 before hosting the Zips.
Expected to start on the mound for Marshall this weekend are senior RHP Wade Martin, sophomore RHP Brady Choban, junior RHP Jeffrey Purnell, and sophomore RHP Ryan Capuano.
Junior SS Georgdon Blanton is the Herd's top hitter. A starter in all 10 games, he has a .325 batting average with 13 hits, seven runs, two doubles, a home run, and six RBI. Senior DH Zach Inskeep follows, batting .324 with 12 hits, seven runs, a double, a home run, and five RBI. On the mound, senior RHP Wade Martin sports a 4.61 ERA and an 0-3 record after pitching 13.2 innings. He has a team-best 18 strikeouts and five walks.

In game one, the Cardinals captured an 8-3 win. The Zips scored first. Junior 2B Bradley Goulet whacked a triple to left center field to start the game. Junior SS Justin Barr (Pensacola, Fla.) then sacrificed on a fly out to right field, scoring Goulet. In the top of the sixth, Goulet's bat was hot again as he doubled to left field. Barr grounded out to first base, scoring junior DH Tate Wargo (Benld, Ill.). Junior CF Brenton Phillips then grounded out, scoring Goulet. Junior righty Taed Heydinger started the game for the Zips and took the loss (0-2). He threw 4.0 innings, fanning one and walking three.
In game two, Lamar won 10-3. For the third consecutive game, the Zips scored first. In the top of the second with two outs, junior 3B Tate Wargo singled to right field, scoring junior 1B Cameron Tilly. In the top of the third with two outs, DH Connor Regan (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) singled to right, scoring junior SS Justin Barr. The next batter– Tilly– singled to left field, scoring junior CF Brenton Phillips. Junior righty Quinton Kujawa started the game for the Zips and took the loss (0-2). He threw 5.0 innings, fanning six and walking one.
In game three, LU closed out the series with a 5-1 win. The Zips scored their lone run in the top of the fifth. ZIPS TO PLAY RIVAL AT CANAL PARK
Akron will take on crosstown rival Kent State on Tuesday, April 28, at 3 p.m. at Canal Park, the home of the Akron RubberDucks. The two single games against the Golden Flashes do not count as Mid-American Conference games this season.
