Akron Football Picked Fifth in the MAC East

DETROIT— The Akron Zips have been tabbed to finish fifth in the East Division in the 2019 Mid-American Conference Football Preseason Poll by members of the MAC media, the league announced on Tuesday prior to its annual Football Media Day at Ford Field in Detroit.

Akron earned 54 points. Ohio was picked first, followed by Miami, Buffalo, Kent State, and Akron. Bowling Green rounded out the picks.

In the West Division, Toledo was selected first, followed by Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Eastern Michigan. Ball State and Central Michigan rounded out the predictions.

The Ohio Bobcats were also predicted to win the 2019 MAC Championship Game which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Noon at Ford Field in Detroit. Â

Under first-year head coach Tom Arth, Akron returns 51 letterwinners. UA opens the 2019 season at Illinois on August 31. The home opener is slated for Sept. 7 against UAB.
Season ticket plans for the 2019 season—which include a ticket to all six home games as well as a parking pass– can be purchased now (starting at only $60 each) by calling or texting 888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets) during business hours (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
