Seven Zips Earn Academic All-MAC Softball Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Seven members of the University of Akron softball team were named to the 2019 Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The seven honorees is a program record for the Zips. Akron had five Academic All-MAC selections in 2017.
A total of 94 student-athletes from 11 different conference institutions were named to this year's team including; seniors Laura Lakins (Akron, Ohio), Kimberly Rodriguez (Las Vegas N.V.), Maddy Clowdus (Eastvale, Calif.) and Sabria Bruton (Palmetto, Fla.), junior Jessie Holzman (Medina, Ohio), sophomore Kayla Wulf (Maumee, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore Sydney Jascoe (Commerce, Mich.).
Lakins is a receiving the award for the third consecutive year, while Jascoe is receiving her second honor. Clowdus, Bruton, Holzman and Wulf are first time recipients.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
