Akron Falls to LSU in NCAA First Round

BATON ROUGE, La. --The Akron Zips distributed three hits as the No. 16 LSU Tigers defeated Akron 8-0 in its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance in Baton Rouge at Tiger Park on Friday.

 LSU sophomore pitcher Jayden Heavener delivered the three-hit shut-out as senior Brooke Sivek registered the Zips first hit after junior Delaney Jenkinson walked. Junior Katie Cantrell posted Akron's second hit, while senior Meagan Lee bunted for a base hit after Jenkinson walked a second time.

Junior Madie Jamrog (18-7) got the ball to start for Akron (34-24) and took the loss, allowing 11 hits for seven earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the fifth, when junior Delaney Jenkinson made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.

» Akron pitchers faced 31 LSU hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out three.
