AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women's volleyball team opened spring exhibition play with two wins on Saturday.
Â
At Youngstown State's Beeghly Center, the Zips split two sets with Cleveland State, 25-23, 16-25. Akron swept Robert Morris in straight sets, 25-21, 25-19. In the finale of the round-robin tourney, UA beat the host Penguins, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20.
Â
No formal statistics were kept.
Â
"It was great to be in a competitive setting for the first time since November," head coach Tom Hanna said. Â "You can certainly see the progress we've made on our offensive tempo to the pins, which has been a major focal point for us this spring. In broad strokes we did a pretty good job competing. There are certainly some things we can work on before taking on Cleveland State on Friday night."
Â
Spring exhibition play continues on Friday, April 13, as Akron will play Cleveland State at the Eastside Volleyball Club at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
