Six Akron Zips Earn NFF Hampshire Honor Society Honors

IRVING, Texas — Six University of Akron football players have been named members of the 2018 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation announced on Wednesday.
Â
The honored Zips are RB Warren Ball (Columbus, Ohio), WR Tra'Von Chapman (Cincinnati, Ohio), S Zach Guiser (Fayette City, Pa.), LB Andrew Hauser (Mason, Ohio), OL Xavier Quigley (Ankeny, Iowa), and WR Anthony Young (Medina, Ohio).

An all-time high of 1,253 players from a record 303 colleges from all divisions of play were honored. Each player maintained a cumulative 3.2 grade-point average (GPA) or better throughout their college careers.

Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have completed their eligibility in 2017, achieved a minimum of a 3.2 GPA, and met all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.

Ball earned a master's degree in education/sport administration from Akron in December 2017. The team captain and Academic All-MAC honoree is currently employed as an academic coordinator with Akron Athletics.

Chapman earned a bachelor's degree in May 2017 in sport management. A third-team All-MAC honoree, he led the receivers with 53 receptions for 475 yards and two touchdowns last fall.
Â
Guiser earned a bachelor's degree in December 2017 in pre-physical therapy/sport science. The Academic All-American and team captain is pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy from Walsh University.

Hauser earned a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2017. He is currently serving as a graduate assistant for defense with Akron football while pursuing a master's degree in public administration.

Quigley earned a bachelor's degree in sport studies and coaching. The Academic All-MAC honoree is currently serving as a graduate assistant for offense with Akron football while pursuing a master's degree in sport science.

Dual-sport athlete Young earned a bachelor's degree in education in December 2017. Â A MAC champion sprinter for the Akron track team, he is an Academic All-MAC honoree. Young plans to student teach in the fall.

Akron's annual Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 21, at Noon at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field. Akron opens the 2018 season at Nebraska on Sept. 1.

Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all home games as well as a parking pass— start at only $60 each. For fans wishing to purchase new season tickets for the 2018 season, the Ticket Office is currently taking non-refundable deposits of $25/seat. As a season ticket holder, fans have the ability to purchase tickets for road games at Nebraska, Northwestern, and Iowa State.
