AKRON, Ohio --Â The Akron women's basketball team officially opened up the 2018-19 preseason with its first practice, as the team prepares for its 45th season of competition.
Akron looks to return to its top spot in the Mid-American Conference under new head coach, Melissa Jackson. After spending the last 10 season's on the Akron staff, including the past six years as the associate head coach, Jackson looks forward to building on the strong foundation already established and leading the Zips' program to new heights.
The Akron roster is led by 11 student-athletes, including eight returners and three newcomers to the squad. UA is guided by its upperclassmen; Megan Sefcik (Senior), Haliegh Reinoehl (junior), Shaunay Edmonds (Junior), Caitlin Vari (Junior), Shayna Harmon (Junior), and Alyssa Clay ( Junior). Combined, the six players have played in a combined 347 games and over 6,500 minutes.
The 2018-19 campaign is highlighted by 14 home contests at the friendly confines of James A. Rhodes Arena, as well as the 2018 Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, and the Kent State Classic.Â
The new season tips off on Tuesday, Nov. 13, when the Zips travel to Greensboro, N.C., to take on North Carolina A&T. Â The home portion of its schedule begins on Saturday, Dec. 1 with Akron hosting Eastern Kentucky.Â
Season tickets for the 2018-19 campaign are on sale now with ticket packages starting at $55. VIP floor seating is again available for women's basketball games, priced at $100 for the season (including a $25 donation to the Z-Fund).

Akron faculty and staff may purchase season tickets for $45, while the Zips also offer a family plan allowing two adults and two children season tickets for $99. Additionally, fans may add on men's basketball general admission season seats for $30 and $50 for a men's family plan add-on.

Tickets can be purchased online anytime at GoZips.com/Tickets, or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Mondays through Fridays by either calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets).
