Head Coach Julie Jones Announces The 2018 Softball Schedule

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron softball head coach Julie Jones announced the Zips' upcoming 2018 schedule that includes five tournaments, eight Mid-American Conference series, and 15 home contests at Lee R. Jackson field.

"We are looking forward to our 2018 schedule that includes traveling to a few familiar spots, along with two new trips to Mercer and UT Martin," said Jones." "With a relatively young team, we hope our matchups will help us face the challenges we need to grow while finding the success we need to gain momentum heading into MAC play."

For the third straight season, the Zips open the 2018 campaign in Deland, Fla., at the Stetson University Tournament for five games from Feb. 9-11.
Â
The Zips return to Montgomery, Ala., on Feb. 16-18, to take part in the Alabama State tournament for five games in three days.
Â
Akron is set to compete in the Mercer University tournament (Feb. 23-25) where the Zips will face off against Mercer, Radford, Drexel, and Eastern Kentucky while in Macon, Ga.
Â
UA's fourth tournament early on in the season takes the team to Richmond, Ky., from March 10-11, to compete at the Eastern Kentucky tournament.

The Zips close out tournament play for the 2018 regular season with a trip to UT Martin on March 17-18. In Martin, Tenn., Akron will square off with Northern Kentucky and tournament host, UT Martin.Â

Akron begins the 2018 Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule with its 2018 home opener on March 23-24. The Zips and Toledo are set for a three-game series at Lee Jackson field.

Another non-conference contest is slated for March 27 at Lee Jackson field against Niagara.

UA picks back up in MAC play with a three-game series against Ball State on March 30-31 with a single game on Friday (Mar. 30) and a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 31).

Following a seven-game homestand, the Zips begin a five-game road swing beginning with a doubleheader in Buffalo, N.Y., against the Bulls on April 3, followed by a three-game series against the Broncos at Western Michigan on April 6-7.

Akron returns home to the friendly confines of Lee Jackson field on April 11 against Buffalo for a single contest against the Bulls.

On April 13-14, the Zips head down to Athens, Ohio, for a three-game series with the Ohio for Akron's fifth MAC series of the season.

The Zips are slated for their final home non-conference game on April 17 when Youngstown State visits Akron for one game.
Â
MAC play resumes on April 20-21 with a three-game series against Bowling Green. The Zips and Falcons are scheduled for one contest on April 20 and a twinbill on April 21.

The 2018 non-conference schedule comes to a close on April 25 when Akron visits Dayton for a doubleheader on April 25.

Akron plays its final contests at home on Lee Jackson field on April 27-28 with a three-game series against Miami (Ohio).

The 2018 regular season comes to a close with one final three-game series against cross-town rival, Kent State, in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel challenge on May 4-5 in Kent, Ohio.

Postseason play at the 2018 Mid-American Conference tournament is slated for May 9-12 at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. The top eight teams in the MAC move on to the postseason play.
