Final Round of Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational Cancelled Due to Weather

Huntington, W.Va. – The Final round of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall was cancelled after several delays caused by inclement weather on Tuesday morning. As a result, the 54-hole tournament was reduced to 36 holes at the Par 71 Guyan Golf & Country Club that stretches 6,573 yards.
Dayton was crowned team champions after Monday's 562 (-6) team performance, while Marshall's Alex Weiss was named individual medalist with an 11-under par 131 tournament total. Marshall, 563  (-5), and Eastern Kentucky, 565 (-3) finished second and third, respectively.
The Akron Zips men's golf team opened the 2017-18 season with a 595 (+27) team effort after 36 holes. The Zips' cut one stroke from a first round 298 (+14) score to finish with a 297 (+13) second round ledger.

Junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) led Akron's scoring efforts with a 146 (+4) performance, while a pair of newcomers followed. Freshmen Jacob Morgan (Lafayette, Ga.) and Fabian Sunden (Sweden) used their collegiate debuts to finish with scores of 148 (+6) and 150 (+8), respectively.

During the first 18-hole round, Grayson cruised to a 2-under par score with 13 pars and two birdies. He finished second in team scoring with a 74 (+3) total. Grayson continued his steady play throughout round two, emerging as the Zips' leader with 15 pars and a birdie for a 1-over par 72 effort. Grayson heads into the final round of play tied for 39th overall on the leaderboard.

Morgan also fired a 1-over par 72 second round score by recording 13 pars and two birdies. The freshman from Lafayette, Ga. cut four strokes from his opening round performance of 77 (+5) to finish tied 54th overall on the leaderboard.

Sunden used his first round of action to post a 1-over par 72 score with 13 pars and two birdies. He followed with a 78 (+7) ledger to finish tied for 66th overall with 20 pars and six birdies.

Senior George Baylis (Ascot, England) is currently fourth in scoring for Akron. Baylis used scores of 77 (+6) and 75 (+4) to finish tied for 75th overall with a 152 (+10) tournament total.

Rounding out the Zips' scoring was sophomore Euan Gill (Dingwall, Scotland). Gill posted rounds of 76 (+4) and 79 (+8) for a 155 (+13) score.

In addition, sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) competed as an individual and currently ranks 58th overall. McFarland carded rounds of 77 (+6) and 72 (+1) for a 149 (+7) 36-hole total.
The men's golf team will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, September 25-26, at Coldstream Golf Club in Cincinnati, Ohio for the Bearcat Invitational.
