Cincinnati, Ohio – The Akron Zips men's golf team carded a 569 (+1) team score and currently ranks 10th overall after 36 holes of the Bearcat Invitational on Monday.

The Zips rebounded with a 7-under par 277 team performance after opening the tournament with a 292 (+8) score at the 7,150-yard, par-71 Coldstream Country Club. With the 15-stroke improvement, Akron maintained the 10th spot on the team leaderboard, and is one stroke behind a two-way tie for eighth place between Cincinnati and Michigan State.

Junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) is leading the Zips' scoring with rounds of 72 (+1) and 69 (-2). His 141 (-1) 36-hole ledger ranked tied for 23rd overall on the individual leaderboard. During the two rounds, Grayson carded 22 pars and nine birdies.Â

Sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) followed in scoring for the Zips with an even-par 142 performance. McFarland used a 2-under par 69 second-round effort to climb 10 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 25th place. He opened the invitational with a 73 (+2). On the day, McFarland collected 20 pars and eight birdies, including four birdies with two bogeys on the second 18 holes.

Recording the lowest 18-hole round of the day was senior George Baylis (Ascot, England). Baylis recovered from a 4-over par 75 first round score with a team-best 3-under par 68 ledger. He moved 27 spots up the leaderboard with an eagle on a 530-yard, par-5 eighth hole, and four birdies mixed with 10 pars and three bogeys. Baylis is currently tied for the 29th position with a 143 (+1) tournament total.

Freshman Fabian Sunden (Sweden) finished fourth in team scoring with a 144 (+2), while juniors Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) and Jacob Morgan (Lafayette, Ga.) rounded out the scoring with 146 (+4) and 153 (+11) scores, respectively.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament is set to begin at 8:35 a.m. with tee times. Morgan is scheduled to get the round started for Akron, teeing off on hole No. 10 at 9:35 a.m., followed by Appleby (9:45), Sunden (9:55), Baylis (10:05), McFarland (10:15), and Grayson (10:25).

Kentucky currently leads the 12-team field by four strokes with an impressive 21-under par 547 team total. Ohio State's Daniel Wetterich climbed nine positions to top the individual race with a 10-under par 132 score.
