Cincinnati, Ohio – Senior George Baylis (Ascot, England) and junior Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) turned in a pair of 2-under par 69 scorecards as the Akron Zips men's golf team climbed two spots to eighth overall with a 853 (+1) 54-hole total at the Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday.

During the final round of the Bearcat Invitational, Akron posted even-par 284 with Baylis and Appleby leading the way.

Baylis climbed nine spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 20th overall with a 1-under par 212 tournament effort. After opening the event with a 75 (+4), the former Mid-American Conference champion fired back-to-back under-par performances. During the second round, he moved 27 spots up the leaderboard with a 3-under 68 ledger, recording eagle and four birdies mixed with 10 pars and three bogeys. He continued his trek during the final round by carding his second eagle of the tournament, two birdies, two bogeys, and 13 pars. Baylis finished the 54-hole tournament with 32 pars, nine birdies, and two eagles.

Appleby also climbed the leaderboard during the final round, scaling 12 positions to finish tied for 32nd overall with a 215 (+2) 54-hole tally. Appleby eagled the 568-yard, 10th hole en route to his 2-under score, adding 13 pars, two birdies and two bogeys. For the tournament, Appleby recorded 38 pars, six birdies and an eagle.

Finishing second in team scoring for the Zips was junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.). Grayson tied for the 26th position after a 73 (+2) final round. He opened with a 72 (+1) score before firing a 2-under 69 to complete the tournament with at 1-over par with 214 strokes. Grayson collected 36 pars and 10 birdies.

Sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) joined Appleby at the 32nd position with a 215 (+2) three-round total, capped by a 73 (+2) final score. During the event, McFarland carded a 2-under 69 score to go along with a par of 2-over par performances. He totaled 32 pars and 10 birdies.

Freshman Fabian Sunden (Sweden) and junior Jacob Morgan (Lafayette, Ga.) rounded out the Zips' scoring with 220 (+7) and 233 (+20) scores, respectively.

Kentucky emerged as the tournament champions with a 32-under par 820 team score, while Arkansas followed with a 26-under par 826 finish. The Wildcats' Tyler McDaniel earned medalist honors with a 201 (-12) ledger, and Mississippi State's Tanapat Pichaikool finished one stroke back for runner-up honors.

The Zips will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2-3 when they host the Firestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
