AKRON, Ohio- The No. 10 Akron rifle team dropped to No. 12 NC State in last weekend's dual, 4,656-4,642, inside Reynolds Coliseum.

"Again, we had a solid performance over the weekend," said head coach Newt Engle. "We keep turning things up each and every week, and I look forward to our next match to see the improvements from this week."

The Zips edged the Wolfpack by two points, 2,345-2,343 in the air rifle event, but fell behind in the smallbore 2,313-2,297.

Three individuals that made the top-ten performance list for the Zips, with freshman Wyatt Openshaw (Parkon, Md.) earning a second-place finish tallying a combined score of 1,166. Sophomore Cierra Terrizzi (Dallastown, Pa.) placed sixth in the competition with a 1,154, followed by junior Caleb Lloyd (Seven Valleys, Pa.) recording a 1,152.

In the smallbore event, Openshaw continued to improve and set a new personal-best tally and a second-place finish of 579. Senior Julia Hatch (Northfield, Vt.) finished fifth in the smallbore competition and marked a 575 score.

Sophomore Lauryn Cinadr (Brunswick, Ohio) paced the Zips and took top-gun honors with her 587 air rifle score and finished third in the event. Openshaw also set a personal-high mark in the event and recorded a 587 shot.

The Zips return to action this weekend as they host No. 3 Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 9 a.m., at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting range.
