Akron Rifle Set for GARC Championships

AKRON, Ohio - The 12th-ranked University of Akron rifle team will vie for a team championship this weekend as the Zips battle for the Great America Rifle Conference Championships hosted by Army this Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 28 – March 1) in West Point, N.Y.
The smallbore rifle competition will take place on Saturday (Feb. 28), starting at 8:30 a.m., before the championships conclude with the air rifle on Sunday (March 1), at the same time.
The championship field includes No. No. 1 Kentucky, 4 West Virginia, No. 7 Navy, No. 10 Memphis, No. 12 Akron, and No. 16 Army.
Senior Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.) leads the Zips this season posting team-best averages of 586.4, 592.07, and 1178.36, in the smallbore, air rifle, and combined, respectively. Senior Rachael Paddock (Perry, N.Y.) is second in smallbore scoring, posting an average of 581.93. Freshman Matthew Kimball (Pineville, La.) is second on the team in both air rifle and combined, with averages of 589.87 and 1171.20.
Scheduled to compete for the Zips are freshman Kiersten Allen (Somerset, Pa.), redshirt-senior Joey Hahn (Middle Grove, N.Y.), junior Diane Heschel (Oak Harbor, Ohio), sophomore Kiley Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Kimball, juniors Elizabeth Lilly (Marble Falls, Texas) and Logan McClimans (Jamestown, Pa.), freshman Kathleen Moran (Buffalo, N.Y.), Paddock, redshirt-senior Sally Reeke (Clifton, Va.), junior Kaleb Santiso (Ridgway, Pa.), and Siek.
